LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (WLKY) — Prom season is fast approaching.
This weekend, dozens of girls in Louisville got to shop for their dream dresses without breaking the bank.
The organization “Giving Loving and Heartfelt” hosted a prom dress giveaway on Saturday and Sunday.
High school girls spent the past few days selecting their prom or graduation dresses along with shoes, jewelry and other accessories.
The items have all been donated by other members of the community and are given to the girls at no cost.
There are dresses for girls of all ages and sizes, and there are no income requirements.
“Words can’t express the feeling to see these girls walk in here and be able to get something that’s been given to me to be able to give something else out to them,” said organizer Sandy Lathery. “It’s very, very heartfelt. I mean, I can’t even express it because it’s a beautiful thing.”
The group will be giving out more prom dresses and accessories next Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Firefighters Union Hall on Bakers Lane.
They have already given away 230 dresses this year.
They’re hoping to develop into a non-profit and host the giveaway each year.
If you’d like to donate a dress, you can do so at Exodus Family Ministries on Bethany Lane Wednesday and Saturday.
Exodus Family Ministries and Warm Wayside are co-sponsors of the giveaway.
