Disaster Declaration In Fremont County
Fremont Country Commission Chairman Skip Hurt issued a disaster declaration at 5 pm Wednesday night due to heavy flooding that is taking place within the county.
On Monday, water from sheet flooding was first reported overtopping County Road 3100 East in several locations, resulting in minor damage. High runoff in this area washed out a private road, preventing the homeowners from being able to return home.
County Road 3200 East received moderate damage due to the runoff threatened a concrete bridge over the Enterprise Canal. The Hog Hollow Road east of St Anthony received serious damage due to water overtopping of the road.
Today heavy flooding was reported near County Road 1000 North and 3000 East in Chester, prompting the closure of these roads due to heavy overtopping.
One residence has been completely surrounded by deep water preventing access to the structure; a driftboat had to be used to gain access to the home.
Sandbag operations were started by neighbors while Fremont County worked on creating a channel for the water to flow through.
The Hog Hollow Road was closed due to additional damage from today?s high flood levels. Large culverts that have been installed on the roads this week are still being overwhelmed by the amount of water.
There has been little damage to private property reported to the county.
This flooding is expected to continue throughout the weekend. Fremont County is asking people to take steps to mitigate any flooding that they may encounter before it happens.
