Police: Man shoots other man in leg during struggle

Police said an Idaho Falls man shot another man in the leg early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to the 1200 block of Boise Avenue in Idaho Falls around 2:50 a.m. for a report of a shooting. They found that 35-year-old Mickey D. McMurtrey had been shot in the left thigh.

According to McMurtrey and witnesses, there were a few people at Daniel Jesse Larsen’s home for a small house party, where they had been drinking alcohol.

McMurtrey told police he saw a man become physically aggressive toward his wife and push her into a fence at the house. When McMurtrey tried to intervene, Larsen, holding a gun, tried to stop him.

McMurtrey and Larsen struggled over the gun, and it went off.

Larsen, 24, was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery and booked into the Bonneville County Jail, according to a news release Monday.
