Small earthquakes in Lava, Yellowstone areas
The U.S. Geological Survey said two small earthquakes occurred Sunday night near Lava Hot Springs.
The first was reported at 9:13 p.m. 4 miles southeast of the town with a magnitude 4.2.
Another, at magnitude 3.6, was reported 7 minutes later.
People calling into the newsroom said the quake shook about 20 seconds.
We did not hear reports of damage, but several people from McCammon to Soda Springs said they felt the quake.
The USGS said two smaller earthquakes were also recorded inside the boundary of Yellowstone National Park in recent days.
The two earthquakes recorded in the northwest corner of Yellowstone National Park were also small — magnitude of 2.9 and 2.7. One hit Friday in an area 40 miles southeast of Gardiner, while the other was recorded Sunday night closer to West Yellowstone, Mont.
