Bingham County talks volunteer council

Bingham County will host a volunteer recognition day on April 1. Henry Henscheid with the Governor’s Commission on Service and Volunteerism has worked with more than 25 volunteer organizations throughout the the county. They are all collaborating their efforts to better help the community through a county-wide Bingham/Blackfoot Volunteer Council.

“I don’t think that people often realize the economic and social impact that volunteers have,” he said. ” Our council has come together because they know that. They understand that and they want to support that as well as each other.”

Henscheid has worked closely with community service efforts, like that of Norma Furniss. She has volunteered her time since 1978, styling hair for extended stay patients at the Bingham Memorial Hospital Beauty shop.

“These ladies are like my family, she said. “But I like to do hair because it makes them feel good. They’re pretty for a day or two.”

Henscheid said April’s recognition day will be to recognize many more of these types of efforts in the community. He hopes to see everyone in the community at the event at 1:30 p.m.
