1 injured, hospitalized after structure fire
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - UPDATE 12:15 p.m. Shortly after 8 a.m. Monday, the Idaho Falls Fire Department and Idaho Falls Police Department responded to a structure fire at the 200 block of W 20th Street in Idaho Falls.
The reporting person told dispatch the kitchen was on fire and that evacuation was in process. A construction worker driving by the area noticed the smoke and flames, ran up to the apartment, kicked the door open and found one adult female standing by the door. He was able to assist her to safety.
When firefighters arrived at the multifamily dwelling, one of the second-story apartments was fully engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished quickly, keeping it from extending into the other apartments and surrounding structures.
The female was transported by ambulance to the hospital in stable condition. There were no other injuries to civilians or first responders.
The second-story apartment had smoke and heat damage throughout, with damages estimated at $75,000. The apartment directly below had significant water damage and is unlivable.
The Law Enforcement Chaplains of Idaho were dispatched to provide assistance to the two residents who were displaced from their homes.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by IFFD’s Fire Prevention Division.

Officials say the fire was reported at 8:09 a.m. Monday, and the reporting person said smoke was coming from the kitchen of a 4-plex.
IFFD said at least one person was injured and was transported to the hospital.
