‘Tis the season for home security: things you should do before holiday travel
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) — Holiday vacations are more enjoyable when you've taken precautions to secure your home while you're away. The Idaho Falls Police Department has some tips for homeowners who plan to go out of town for the holidays.
They recommend checking all doors and windows to make sure they are securely locked, arming your home security system, and making sure that items such as children's toys, ladders, lawn furniture, etc. are put away.
It's also smart to arrange for a neighbor to shovel your driveway, check you mail, and take out the trash. You may even consider using automatic timers on interior lights. These things will help give the appearance that your home is occupied which could deter a potential burglar.
