Police investigate crash on Fremont Avenue in Idaho Falls

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) — Idaho Falls police said a man was killed in an early morning crash on Fremont Avenue under the US 20 bridge.

Idaho Falls Police said the driver was heading south on Fremont at approximately 2:15 a.m. Thursday, August 29, when he drove off into the median, hitting a large signpost. Then, the car crashed into a support pillar for the highway bridge, ending up in the northbound lanes and catching fire.

Firefighters had to extricate the driver from the car. He was taken to the hospital where he died.

Police said they believe speed is a factor.

The road was closed for several hours for emergency crews to clean up the crash.
