Idaho State Fall Camp gets underway as Bengals prepare for the 2022 season

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) - The Idaho State Bengals are gearing up for the 2022 season, with Fall Camp beginning Saturday and ISU practicing with shoulder pads for the first time Monday.

After a one-win season last year, the Bengals were ranked at least tied for last in the Big Sky Conference Preseason Polls. Head Coach Charlie Ragle said that gives his team extra motivation for 2022.

"I understand why they voted us there," Ragle said. "But doesn't mean I have to like it and our guys don't like it. And, you know, we're the ones that have the opportunity to go out and do something about it. And that's all that matters. And so our strength comes from within."

The season opener is set for Aug. 27th at UNLV, which represents Ragle's first game as a collegiate head coach. Ragle adds that the opener is a game he's been looking forward to for a long time.

"It'll be a surreal moment," Ragle said. "To go to Vegas, a lot of friends and family showing up, it'll be special... it's a pretty cool deal, I'm not going to lie. Only thing that's going to make it that much sweeter is if we walk out of there with the W."

Following the season opener, the Bengals will have a bye week and another road contest at San Diego State before the home opener at Holt Arena Sep. 17th against Central Arkansas at 1:00 p.m.
