Storm chances crank up and cooler temps

After a high of 97 degrees and a record setting amount of afternoon heat yesterday, the cool down kicks in today for us and we drop highs to the low 90's and mid-to-upper 80's for the mountains. Hot in Salmon at 97. Storms roll up from the south with monsoonal flow and pop thunderstorms and heavy rains for southwest corner of the state this morning and the energy and heat will make for a stormy night and afternoons for the weekend. Look for showers and storms in the late afternoon and evening, before bedtime at 11pm. (Nothing good happens after midnight, right?)

Your chances of storms hit 50% for much of the Snake River Plain and western Wyoming. Expect fast and heavy downpours, lightning, and gusty winds 30+mph with storms. Scattered storms will continue through Sunday and temperatures remain cool in the mountains with lows in the 40's in Jackson and 60's tonight in the valley, and mid 50's for the weekend. Highs will settle just above average (85 for mid August) in the upper 80's for most by tomorrow and Sunday. Drier conditions for start of the week and back-to-school for a lot of our viewers.
