Hot temps for Thursday and Friday; Heat Advisory posted

KIFI

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for portions of southeast Idaho on Friday, as widespread temperatures are expected to reach between 94 and 100 degrees.

The heat advisory will remain in effect from noon to 10 p.m. Friday. The advisory covers the Arco/Mud Lake Desert, Upper Snake River Plain, Marsh and Albion Highlands, and the Franklin/Eastern Oneida Region. The National Weather Service cautions; high temperatures may lead to heat illnesses. Recommended precautions include drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, remaining out of the sun and checking on relatives and neighbors.

Before the advisory takes effect, high temperatures across the region will reach near 94 degrees on Thursday under sunny skies with light winds. Highs on Friday are projected to reach near 96 degrees under mostly sunny conditions. A weather pattern shift will bring monsoon moisture into the region starting Friday night, bringing a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms under mostly cloudy skies with a low around 59 degrees.

Wetter and cooler conditions will return for the weekend and into next week as an approaching low-pressure system pushes the ridge of high pressure east and draws moisture from the south.

Conditions will turn cooler on Saturday with a high near 87 degrees and a 40% chance of precipitation. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible this weekend.
