Woman Sentenced In Drunken Driving Death

A 19-year-old Desmet woman has been sentenced to 30 days in jail, six months of house arrest and six months in a halfway house for the death of a friend she struck with her car while speeding and driving drunk.

Andrea M. George pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter for the April 2010 death of 22-year-old Patrick Gourneau on the Coeur d’Alene Indian Reservation.

The Coeur d’Alene Press reports (http://bit.ly/nu4fEz) U.S. District Court Judge Edward Lodge sentenced George on Tuesday.

Prosecutors say George was traveling 82 mph in a 25 mph zone when she crested a hill in a residential area and struck Gourneau, who was standing in the road.

She was on her way to pick George up when she struck him. Court records say both were legally intoxicated.
