Wyo. Air Guard Tankers Sent To Idaho
Three Wyoming Air National Guard C-130s are being sent to Idaho to help the U.S. Forest Service fight wildfires in the region.
Thirty airmen from the 187th Airlift Squadron based in Cheyenne left Friday for Boise, Idaho, where they will be stationed for an undetermined amount of time.
Maj. Jeremy Schaad, a pilot who is taking part in the deployment, said the Air Guard’s help was requested because many of the commercial aircraft and crews that typically help fight the fires have been diverted to Texas.
The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/r4XCsc) that two of the Wyoming C-130s are capable of dropping up to 3,000 gallons of fire retardant.
It is the second deployment involving Wyoming Air Guard aircraft to fight fires this year.
