Idaho, Wyo. to observe moment of silence
Idaho and Wyoming will join the nation in a moment of silence for the 26 victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting last week.
Both governors issued similar statements after they received a request from Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to hold an observance Friday morning.
“At this time when Idahoans celebrate the spirit of the season we should take a moment to remember that many families in Connecticut are dealing with unspeakable tragedy and the reality that their family and their community has been changed forever,” Idaho Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter said. “I ask that all Idahoans observe a moment of silence on Friday, Dec. 21, at 9:30 a.m. Mountain Time to let our friends in Connecticut know they are in our thoughts and prayers, and that they are not alone in their grief.”
“We were all shaken by the loss of lives,” Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead said. “I believe it is fitting that Wyoming join the nation in pausing to remember the 20 children and six teachers taken too soon.”
Malloy requested that “places of worship and government buildings, which have the ability, ring bells 26 times during that moment to honor each life that was taken far too soon at Sandy Hook Elementary School.”
