Lightning causes 2 fires near Inkom
Bannock County officials have confirmed two fires started around 9:00 p.m Saturday in the Black Rock Canyon area.
Bannock County Dispatch confirmed the fires started from lightning strikes.
So far no structures have been threatened.
The Pocatello Valley Fire Department says the two fires burned a total of between 200-300 acres.
Fire crews from Bannock County and BLM are still on the scene.
Nearby neighbors and witnesses to the lightning strikes say the fires were contained at around midnight, but Bannock County Search and Rescue members say county officials did not leave the scene until early this morning.
Pocatello Valley Fire Department Fire Chief Karen Aguilar says nobody had to evacuate.
Aguilar says the hills are covered in June Grass, which catches fire extremely easily in this dry heat, and spreads even quicker, so she would like to remind people to not light fireworks in these areas.
