Local program helps kids with disabilities

On Monday five kids were awarded bikes to fit their special needs. “Bike for Kids” is a program that gives new adaptable bikes to kids who are not able to experience the freedom of riding a bicycle.

For the past five years, the program has been putting on a community fundraiser for The Children with Disabilities Foundation. The annual event features a community bike ride. The money raised will go towards providing new adapted bikes for other kids.

“It lets them keep up with their siblings and do what the other kids in the family are doing. As a physical therapist, I work with a lot of the kids who received bikes in the past. The families are so appreciative,” said Mark Taylor.

“Over the years as he got larger finding training wheels that will work on a bike well enough to where he would be confident enough to go on a bike ride with the family became a larger and larger struggle for us,” said Matt Tower.

The Bike for Kids event will be held Saturday at Snake River Landing. The event starts at 6:30 a.m.
