Idaho State Police increase enforcement for Labor Day weekend
Idaho State Police, the Idaho Falls Police Department and the Idaho Transportation Department are partnering together to increase their presence this Labor Day weekend. The agencies said now is the time when drunken drivers are out and aggressive driving is in full force.
“The Idaho State Police has put a number of troopers out during this holiday weekend to look for aggressive driving and DUI violations. We are looking for those drivers that are causing a majority of crashes out here,” said ISP Lieutenant Chris Weadick.
ISP is one of many agencies that will be out in full force over the holiday weekend. The Idaho Falls Police Department has already announced it will be targeting drunken drivers and aggressive drivers.
“Aggressive driving goes hand-in-hand with speeding, tailgating and cutting off other drivers. We are looking for those violations,” Weadick said.
If it is any indication of 2013 it seems like troopers are sure to stay busy. Last Labor Day weekend there were 145 alcohol related crashes in the state, more than 30 crashes due to distracted driving and speeding caused 14 crashes.
“There is a lot of people and a lot of traffic. Emotions are running high so just take your time and stay safe,” Weadick said.
ISP said if you spot someone that is a possible DUI driver make sure to call 911.
ISP and the Idaho Falls Police Department receive money from the Idaho Transportation Department to increase their presence during the holiday weekend. The increased enforcement ends after the first week of September.
