Family Discovery Day held in Idaho Falls
Ever wonder about who may be in your family tree? The Idaho Falls South Stake LDS chapel hosted a free Family Discovery Day on Saturday tp give people an opportunity to find their ancestry.
There are a lot of new programs and websites that allow people to learn more about their family history.
“It was great for us because we know very little of our family. Our parents died young and they hadn’t told us hardly anything other than where they came from,” Carol Craft said.
“We’re just here for the community today, so we can share our enthusiasm for genealogy, for family history and to just share what knowledge we know,” said Kip Nield with Idaho Falls South Stake.
From using phone apps, to indexing, this event had almost everything people needed to get a family tree started. People of all faiths and background were welcome to take a peek at their history.
“We just went back several generations. It was amazing,” said Craft and her sister Bonnie Hahn, “We never knew our grandparents on our father’s side, and we only had them a little while on our mother’s side. So we didn’t have any connections to anybody back there. So now we’re inspired to follow it through if we can.”
The church used many different systems from familysearch.com to ancestry.com, and many different tools to help record family history.
