Fatality crash reported in Caribou County

UPDATE 7:00 a.m. Richard Lee, 63, and passenger Cheryl Lee, 63, both of New Zealand, were the passengers of the Dodge travel van. Both died from their injuries at the scene of the crash.
Family has been notified.

UPDATE 1:15 p.m. Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle, head-on crash on State Highway 34 at milepost 107.7, about 6 miles west of the Idaho-Wyoming border in southeast Idaho Friday around 6:48 a.m.

Officials say a 2018 Dodge travel van was eastbound on Highway 34 near milepost 107 when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 1993 Kenworth semi-truck pulling a trailer.

Both vehicles came to rest on the shoulder of the road.

The two occupants in the van succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the crash.

Their names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the commercial vehicle, Michael Garvin, 62, of Idaho Falls, was not transported.

The highway was blocked for about three hours while one lane was cleared for traffic. The highway was completely clear at about 11:30 a.m.

UPDATE 10:00 a.m.: Idaho State Police reports one lane of State Highway 34 is now open to all traffic.

Investigators are still on scene.

Officials ask you use caution when traveling through the area.

Idaho State Police are investigating a crash on State Highway 34 near milepost 109, about 4 miles west of the Wyoming border in Caribou County.

ISP reports that at least one person was killed in the crash, which was reported at 7:45 a.m. Friday.

The highway is blocked by a commercial vehicle, which was involved in the crash.

Light duty vehicles like cars and pickups can make it through the accident scene at this time, but ISP said heavy duty commercial vehicles cannot.
