Teton County expands fire restrictions

Teton County, Wyoming has enacted temporary fire restrictions for all unincorporated areas of the county.

Jackson Hole Fire/EMS Chief Brady Hansen, acting as County Fire Warden, said the rules were prompted by “very high” fire danger due to extremely dry vegetation, critical fire weather conditions, and other factors.

The restrictions prohibit open fires with some exceptions. Those include:
Trash or refuse fires will be permitted between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. inside containers with maximum quarter-inch screen spark arresters within a cleared 10 foot radius.

Campfires contained within an established fire ring at an established campground.

Charcoal fires within enclosed grills.

Use of acetylene cutting torches or electric arc welders are permitted within areas with a ten-foot cleared radius.

Propane or open fire branding activities are permitted within areas with a ten-foot cleared radius.

Use of home fire pits and bowls are permitted, as long as they are used with maximum quarter-inch screen spark arresters.

In addition, the county’s existing ban on fireworks remains in effect.

Teton County is working to coordinate fire restriction efforts across boundaries with Grand Teton National Park and the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

Additional details are available at the Teton Interagency Fire Center.
