Rexburg invites community out to meet new students
Brigham Young University Idaho students started classes earlier this week. To help these students get better acquainted with what is going on around Rexburg, the city held it’s second annual “Experience Rexburg.”
“It’s fun meeting everyone and getting to know their stories,” said Mayor Jerry Merrill, the City of Rexburg. “I’ve already met with a lot of the different students.”
Businesses from all around town were invited to take part in the experience and show its new neighbors what they are all about.
“When the students are gone, I certainly miss them and I think the businesses miss them too,” said Christopher Mann, the president and CEO of Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce. “We want to make sure that are businesses have a fair chance to introduce themselves to the new students.”
Businesses also brought out the one thing college students love the most.
Free stuff.
The party was not exclusively just for BYU-I students, it is for the whole community.
“The whole idea is to bring the local community together to experience what Rexburg is all about and to mix and mingle with each other and to learn to appreciate each other,” Mayor Merrill.
The city and the chamber of commerce have hosted similar events before, but this is the second year the city of Rexburg, the Chamber of Commerce and BYU-I have all joined forces for the event.
