Suspect charged for shooting deputy

Juan Santos-Quintero, 23, who was arrested Friday night following the shooting of a Bingham County Deputy in Firth, now faces four felony counts in connection with the incident.

Bingham County Prosecutor Cleve Colson said Santos-Quintero will be charged as a persistent violator.

He filed four felony charges including; aggravated battery upon a peace officer, two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm.

If convicted, the man faces 30 years in prison and a $100,000 fine in benefit of the victim on count one. Counts two and three carry penalties of 10 years in prison and a $5,000 fine in favor of the victim on each charge. Count four is punishable by five years in prison and a fine of $5,000. Because he is charged as a persistent violator, his sentence could be enhanced to a minimum of 5 additional years, up to life in prison
