The Simon & Garfunkel Story brings classics to eastern Idaho
The Simon & Garfunkel Story is kicking off it’s USA and Canada tour in Idaho Falls at the Colonial Theater on Friday.
The show tells the story of the successful musical duo. It features huge projection photos, original film footage and a full live band performing hits like ‘The Boxer,’ ‘The Sound of Silence,’ ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water,’ ‘Homeward Bound’ and more.
“It takes the audience through the years that Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel were performing music together,” said Taylor Bloom, who plays Paul Simon.
“Our show is more celebrating the years they spent together and the iconic music that they made and all of the good stuff,” added Ben Cooley, who plays Art Garfunkel. “Although, we do address the break up in 1970 at the end.”
After sold out shows in London’s West End five years ago; Dean Elliot, the creator of the show, wanted to hit the road and bring the story internationally.
“There is a separate Simon and Garfunkel show that’s touring the world and then he wanted to bring it to the United States and this is the second year of the U.S. tour,” Bloom said.
This is Bloom’s second year with the tour and Cooley’s first.
“Most of the band members are new from last year and everyone is just superb,” said Bloom.
Both Bloom and Cooley agree that with a show with so many classics, it is hard to choose a standout moment.
“I definitely vacillate between a few,” Bloom said. “There are some that the audience has such a positive reaction that is just awesome. Then there’s a couple songs where the band hits like a really good groove. When we play ‘Keep the Customer Satisfied’ and everyone is just bouncing along that one is really fun.”
This show is for people who grew up with the pairs tunes.
“Just hearing all those songs that they’re used to and will bring them back to wherever they were when they first heard them,” said Cooley.
It is also for people who might want to branch out in music.
“It introduced me to a whole new catalog of music that I just love,” said Bloom. “Now I listen to Paul Simon all the time. I’ll just play Simon and Garfunkel on the train.”
It is sure to be ‘rockin’ time.
The Simon & Garfunkel Story is put on by the Idaho Falls Arts Council. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Tickets $35, $40 and $45. You can purchase tickets HERE.
