Park rangers investigate human-caused fire
Yellowstone National Park Rangers are looking for the people responsible for a fire they started at around 6 p.m. Friday near the North Entrance.
Park officials said the fire burned through grass and sagebrush between the North Entrance Station and the Gardner River.
Firefighters from Yellowstone, the town of Gardiner, and Paradise Valley contained the fire at approximately 4 acres. A half-acre spot fire also started on the other side of the Gardner River. Firefighter response kept it from threatening visitors or buildings.
The North Entrance was closed about 90 minutes and outbound traffic was routed through the Old Gardiner Road.
Anyone who was in the area Friday evening or has information about people using the picnic area near the entrance station is encouraged to contact the park’s 24-hour tip line at 307-344-2132. Callers may remain anonymous.
