Wyoming Medicaid plan would cover all for air ambulance service

The Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) is considering a proposal that would extend a portion of Medicaid coverage to all residents of the state.

The proposed waiver would expand Wyoming Medicaid to all state residents for the specific purpose of air ambulance transportation.

The waiver would eliminate the surprise billing of patients and reduce the average cost of air ambulance flights. It would also ensure a set level of access and quality while improving price transparency for patients and employer groups.

The proposal would allow WDH to competitively bid for a selected network of air ambulance providers. The state would make periodic flat payments to contracted providers and then recoup the revenue needed to fund the system from the insurance plans and individuals already paying for transports.

Public meetings are scheduled August 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Laramie County Library in Cheyenne or August 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Central Wyoming College in Health Sciences in Riverton.
