New day care option for grade school parents

Bonneville School District 93 has started a new after-school program that will give parents a new option. They can pay for day care set up right at the elementary school. It’s called The Right Club.

First-grader Cambri Standfield looks forward to coming there each day after school.

“Doing the crafts and showing mom what my homework is,” Cambri said.

Cambri doesn’t have to worry about going somewhere else for day care. She stays right at Rimrock. Cambri and the other kids get a snack, do crafts, get some exercise and get help with their homework.

The Right Club is a national program that District 93 has been working on getting for some time.

“We want a full service elementary school where parents come and drop their child off at 6 or 7 in the morning and they pick them up at 5, 6, or 7 at night,” Superintendent Dr. Chuck Shackett said.

Right Club directors come in and set things up like they do all over the country.

“Studies show that after school programming improves test scores and helps with fitness, health and nutrition,” Right at School Regional Director Cindy Lawson said.

School administrators think this makes sense.

“Kids don’t have to wait for day care to come pick them up, they don’t have to travel across town, it’s just right here in our community,” Rimrock Principal Tina Orme said.

Many of the teachers are Brigham Young University-Idaho education students. Parents like having this option for their kids.

“It’s awesome!,” parent Brandi Cox said. “She gets her homework done after school, so we have more family time at home. They do exercise activities. It keeps her engaged.”

The program costs anywhere from $15 a week for one day per week to $64 dollars for all five days.
