6 crash victims identified after pickup crashes into passenger van

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - UPDATE 5/20/24: New details have been released after a serious accident near the I-15 interchange that claimed the lives of 6 people and sent 10 others to the hospital.

According to the Bonneville County Coroner's office, the victims have been identified. They are 43-year-old Abel Mejía Martínez, 25-yera-old Pedro Manuel Alcantar Mejía, 24-year-old Brandon Ponce Gallegos, 20-year-old Jose Guadalupe Sánchez Medina, 32-year-old Luis Enrique Sereno Perez and 36-year-old Javier Gomez Alcantar.


ORIGINAL: US 20 is back open near the I-15 interchange after a serious accident that claimed the lives of 6 people and sent 10 others to the hospital.

Idaho State Police said the accident happened around 5:30 am. They say a driver in a Ram pickup struck a Chevrolet Van that had 15 people inside. The driver of the van and 5 passengers died in the crash. 9 other passengers in the van were taken to the hospital. The driver of the truck was also taken to the hospital.

The closure was between Lindsay Boulevard and I-15. The highway fully reopened about six and a half hours after the crash.

Idaho State Police are investigating the accident.
