14-year-old student died after falling off car

Police say a 14-year-old student died last month after falling from the hood of a car and hitting his head on the asphalt in a parking lot at a high school in western Wyoming.

Afton Police Chief Jason Romberg told KTWO-AM Ryder Haderlie had jumped onto the hood a car on the evening of Sept. 12 at Star Valley High School.

According to Romberg, the vehicle then began moving slowly forward and Haderlie reportedly began to slip as he stood on the car’s hood. At that point, the driver applied the brakes and Haderlie fell off the car.

Haderlie was flown to Eastern Idaho Medical Center in Idaho Falls, where he died the following morning.

The incident remains under investigation and no other information was being released.

An account has been set up at the Bank of Star Valley in Afton, Wyoming under the name of Ryder Haderlie Family. P.O. Box 8007 Afton, Wyoming 307-885-0000.
