Collision with school bus sends 4 students to hospital, kills Ammon man

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - UPDATE 5:30 p.m. The Bonneville County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of the pickup driver.

The victim involved in this fatality crash is identified as 27-year-old David Eason Thomas Roemer of Ammon.

Police say Roemer was driving his pickup East on 65th N. and collided with the School Bus at 15th E.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available.


ORIGINAL: One man is dead after colliding with a school bus north of Idaho Falls. Four students were taken to area hospitals.

It happened at the intersection of 15 East (St. Leon Rd.) and 65th North (Tower Rd.) at about 8:10 a.m. Monday.

The man, whose name has not been released, was in a small pickup that collided with the bus.

Bonneville County Sheriff's office said the man was heading east on 65th N and didn't stop at the stop sign and collided with the bus heading south on 15th E.

The bus was transporting students attending Rocky Mountain Middle School and Bonneville High School.

The students who were not taken to the hospital went home with their parents who picked them up at the accident scene.

There were more than 40 on the bus at the time of the accident, said Bryan Lovell, Bonneville County Sheriff Office's public information officer.

A letter was sent to parents from the Bonneville School District Superintendent, Dr. Scott Woolstenhulm. He said, "We are grateful for the cooperation and support of our parents in helping to respond to this situation this morning. While our transportation department has a very safe driving record, accidents can occur."

Deputies are continuing to investigate the crash. The sheriff's office would like to thank those who stopped and provided assistance at the accident.
