Water and other utility restorations continue at Highland High School in preparation for new school year

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) – The Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 is making progress on the goal to return learners and staff home to Highland High School with a traditional schedule for the 2023-2024 school year. At this time, the district is on track to meet this target as the new school year begins on Wednesday, August 23.

The district has been successful in the restoration of some of the major utility services interrupted by the fire.

This week, the district was able to restore water services to the building and start the water heaters to provide hot water to Highland’s facilities. Restoration of other ancillary systems will follow shortly.

In addition, Intermountain Gas is examining the existing and capped gas lines prior to restoring service, which is anticipated to be completed by Friday. The district was able to complete the restoration of power in May. The site continues to be in the evaluation phase of the insurance investigation. Demolition will begin once the insurance investigation process is complete

Working together with Highland’s administration, the district is finalizing plans for all displaced instructional, co-curricular, and extracurricular programs that will need to be temporarily relocated in alternate facilities. Additional information detailing these plans will be available soon.
