Lori Vallow-Daybell’s attorney removed from her case

ST. ANTHONY, Idaho (KIFI) - Lori Vallow-Daybell's hired attorney can no longer represent her in court.

District Judge Steven Boyce made the decision through a 17-page document Tuesday to remove Mark Means because of a conflict of interest. The conflict was when he represented Chad Daybell and Lori Daybell.

The Judge appointed Public Defense attorney James Archibald to represent her in the case. He was appointed as co-counsel in the case in August to help defend her rights in a death penalty case.

Both Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow-Daybell signed a waiver allowing the conflict of counsel. But Judge Boyce said it's the court's duty to ensure "criminal trials are conducted within the ethical standards of the profession and the legal proceedings appear fair to all who observe them."

Attorneys were scheduled to discuss a motion to squash a Subpoena requesting documents from local church leaders in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and staff with the Department of Health and Welfare. It was postponed to an undetermined date. Archibald said he could possibly handle the issue out of court.
