Rigby Chamber of Commerce to hold open primary initiative event
RIGBY, Idaho (KIFI) - Volunteers for Idahoans for Open Primaries have collected more than 67,000 signatures of Idahoans who support the open primaries initiative.
Seeing this momentum, the Rigby Chamber of Commerce told Local News 8 they've invited Hyrum Erickson, a Republican Precinct Committeeman from Rexburg and volunteer with Idahoans for Open Primaries, the chance to speak about the initiative at an upcoming Chamber event.
“With the Open Primaries Initiative, voters can once again get excited about getting stronger candidates who are focused on finding solutions for real Idaho problems," Erickson said. "We have a chance to improve our political system. I appreciate the invitation from the Rigby Chamber of Commerce and the opportunity to discuss the initiative with its members and the community.”
With the current closed primary system that was introduced in 2011, independent voters are blocked from participating in the most important elections, Erickson said.
Erickson said he will discuss all components of the initiative, share where Idahoans for Open Primaries are in the process of getting on the ballot and answer any questions community members have.
The event starts at the Venue Studio at 173 E. Main St., Suite #2, Rigby, Idaho, 83442 from 12 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.
