Investigation into inmate death at Bingham County Jail
BINGHAM COUNTY, Idaho (KIFI) - An investigation into the death of a Bingham County Jail inmate is underway.
On Saturday at approximately 4:15 p.m. during a routine security check, a female inmate was located in a cell unresponsive.
Bingham County Sheriff Jeff Gardner said staff immediately began to perform life saving measures on the inmate identified as 31-year-old Camille Elizabeth Lankford, and Emergency Medical personnel were contacted.
EMS responded to the jail and took over life saving measures but were unsuccessful in reviving Lankford.
Approximately 30 minutes later, EMS requested to contact the Bingham County Coroner.
The investigation into Lankford’s death was turned over to the Tri-County Investigators. The primary investigation with the Tri-County Investigators will be conducted by the Power County and Bonneville County Sheriff’s Offices.
The Bingham County Joint Detective Division will also be conducting a separate investigation into the death of Lankford.
Lankford had been in custody since Oct. 12 and was booked on two warrants. The charges were failure to appear on driving without privileges and failure to appear on possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.
Sheriff Gardner said no further information will be given out until all investigations are complete.
"The Bingham County Sheriff’s office at this time would like to give our condolences to any family, friends and acquaintances of the victim and want the public to know that the safety and security of all inmates housed in the Bingham County Jail is our utmost priority," he said.
