Gas pipeline being moved underwater on Pancheri Drive
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - Pancheri Drive in Idaho Falls is currently under some new construction that will change the way natural gas is delivered to places around the Snake River Landing area. Intermountain Gas is upgrading the piping in the area and will be moving the pipe underwater.
"We're going to bore under the Snake River. And then we'll pull this pipeline that you see strong here back through that bore about a thousand feet, a little over a thousand feet, total length of steel pipeline, 6 inch that will pull back through the bore under the river," Intermountain Gas Eastern Region Director Doug Hansen said.
The gas line is visible currently on the side of the road as the continue to bore into the bed of the Snake River. The good news for gas customers in the area is the upgrading of the pipeline shouldn't impact gas needs.
"Everything goes well for us. This will be a seamless transition for the customers. They won't notice any impact," Hansen said.
He said it should all help them in the future.
"This will allow us to continue to serve reliable natural gas to our customers that are on the west side."
The project is already making significant progress toward its projected end date on July 4.
"A matter of fact, the bore has already come out through this side of the river there board from the east to the west. They like it out on this side already, the west side. So they'll be able to back ram through and mud. "
The project is already making significant progress toward its projected end date of Independence Day.
"A matter of fact, the bore has already come out through this side of the river there board from the east to the west. They like it out on this side already, the west side. So they'll be able to back ram through and mud. That's solid basalt and that's the hot the tube, if you will, that will pull this line back through," Hansen said.
Hansen encourages people commuting in the area to be extra careful around the construction line until its ready to go by the Fourth of July.
