High School Football State Championships Preview

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - This weekend, a dream could become reality for six local football teams as they sit one win away from a state championship.

The games featuring local teams begin on Friday night. At Boise State, Hillcrest and Bishop Kelly clash in a battle of unbeaten Knights teams for the 4A title. Hillcrest goes for its first championship since 2018 Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Every other local team plays at Holt Arena, starting with Butte County taking on the back-to-back-to-back state champion Oakley Hornets Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the 1AD1 title game.

The Pirates seek their first football championship in school history, and they go for the title with extra motivation to play for their teammate Dillon Waymire, who suffered a blood clot in his brain during a game in October and continues to recover at a hospital in Middleton.

The late game Friday at Holt is also a Pirates vs. Hornets matchup featuring West Side and Declo in the 2A championship. Declo won that battle by one point in the regular season. Kickoff is at 8:15 p.m.

Highland kicks off the Saturday doubleheader against Coeur d'Alene in the 5A title game at 1:00 p.m. The Rams seek their 12th championship and first under Head Nick Sorrell.

To cap off an exciting weekend, Teton and Sugar-Salem battle one more time this season Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The Diggers go for their fifth title in six seasons, while the Timberwolves seek their first 3A championship and second overall.

We will have the recap of all five state championship games featuring local teams throughout the weekend on Sports Line.
