As investigators raced to find the person responsible for three killings in rural Wayne County, Utah, they used automated license plate readers and a victim’s own vehicle key fob to track their suspect – a man police said has no connection to the victims or the region that is known for its awe-inspiring landscapes dotted with quiet, small towns.

Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the death investigations of three women whose bodies were found Wednesday in Wayne County, Utah, a neighboring sheriff’s office said Thursday.

“We have received confirmation that a suspect in the Wayne County homicides was captured early this morning,” the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office said. “The suspect is in law enforcement custody.”

A Utah County prosecutor’s office will be allowed to continue building its death penalty case against Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, despite the defense’s claims that it mishandled a potential conflict of interest.

Robinson’s defense attorneys had asked for the entire Utah County Attorney’s Office to be recused from the case, arguing that the presence of a lead prosecutor’s child at the event where Kirk was assassinated had tainted the office’s decisions. But a judge on Tuesday ruled the child’s attendance “did not materially influence” prosecutors’ actions.

Kateryna “Kate” Tovmash was fatally shot alongside her boyfriend, Matthew Wade, 28, who was a soldier stationed at Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg), west of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Reports also say that the two were allegedly killed by Tovmash’s ex-boyfriend, Caleb Fosnaugh, 25.

A 54-year-old Heber City man is facing aggravated child abuse charges after his 16-year-old daughter told police that he waterboarded her.

The indictment accuses Micah Smith of being “selfish” and formally charges him with 3 counts of child torture and three counts of aggravated child abuse. He is currently being held without bail.

Leaders from the Japanese Church of Christ unveiled artifacts found in a 101-year-old time capsule on Saturday, showcasing the story of early Japanese immigrants to Salt Lake City.

According to a press release from Michelle Schmitt, the previously unknown time capsule contained three newspapers, Sunday school records, an American and Japanese flag and two small bibles, one of which had been brought to Utah by a Japanese immigrant in 1906.

The family of Angela Hansen is asking for lots of love and support as she works through her family’s second major tragedy.

Her 22-month-old daughter, Ada, was struck and killed by a truck while Hansen was cleaning the family minivan at a car wash Friday. In addition to that, she lost her husband, Kyley Hansen, to drowning at a family pool party on the Fourth of July in 2023.
