Eduardo Trejo De Arcos, 26, died on Dec. 22 after he was shot by an IFPD officer, after De Arcos allegedly lunged for and grabbed a large knife as officers responded to a domestic disturbance call.

Since the 1950s, the Idaho National Lab, known locally as “the site,” has been the testing grounds for nuclear reactors for both the Department of Energy and the U.S. Military. But producing any type of energy is not without risk of accidents, and the site has seen three.
The first was a deliberate destructive test at the Borax-1 reactor in 1954. The second was in 1955 at the now famous EBR-1 known for generating the first usable electricity from atomic energy. Neither of those accidents injured anyone, and there was no threat of radioactive contamination.
But the third accident, in January of 1961, was much worse. That accident was deadly.

Bannock County authorities have closed the investigation into the death of 19-year-old Jonas Diaz-Edgeman, whose body was discovered on private property last November.
Following a joint investigation by the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office, officials confirmed that Diaz-Edgeman died of hypothermia with alcohol intoxication. His death has been officially ruled an accident.

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon is calling for an immediate rehearing and a constitutional amendment after the state Supreme Court struck down two 2023 abortion bans on Tuesday, Jan. 6. In a 4-1 decision, the high court ruled that the state’s “Life is a Human Right Act” (HB 152) and its ban on chemical abortions (SF 109) violate the Wyoming Constitution.
“Although we recognize the State’s interest in protecting the life that an abortion would end, we conclude the State did not meet its burden of justifying the abortion statutes’ restrictions on a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions, as is expressly protected by the Wyoming Constitution,” wrote Chief Justice Boomgaarden in the opinion.

The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office has issued an Endangered Missing Person Alert for an unnamed 84-year-old man last seen at the intersection of Lone Pine Road and Gay Mine Road.
The man is believed to be in danger, according to the alert. He was last seen wearing a blue suit jacket, tan slacks, and cowboy boots. According to a post on the Facebook group Life in Pocatello, the man may be driving a dark red Lexus ES350 sedan, license # 1B G8404.

The Aid For Friends Shelter in Pocatello hosted their annual homeless encampment at Caldwell park overnight on Saturday, December 6th. Participants raised awareness and money for the shelter to continue helping the homeless population in the area by sleeping in cardboard boxes overnight at the park.

Idaho State’s Reed Gym Pool hosted it’s first collegiate competition in 6 years this Saturday, December 6th. The ISU Swim club hosted Boise State, Utah State, and Weber State for the Bengal Invitational meet. The pool at Reed Gym hasn’t been completely since the renovation though. It has played host to numerous high school meets since the re-opening in 2024.

After an extensive months-long search, the City of Pocatello has officially filled its Chief Financial Officer/City Treasurer position. During Thursday’s City Council meeting, Council Members voted to approve the hiring of Rich Morgan as the City’s next CFO/City Treasurer.
“I am excited and honored to step into this role and serve our community during this important transition,” said Morgan. “My focus will be strengthening the city’s financial foundation, supporting the dedicated staff in the Finance department, and ensuring that our work reflects transparency, accountability, and service to residents. A major shake-up has taken place in the criminal case against Lance Peck, the former owner of Downard Funeral Home. Peck’s private attorney, Richard Blok, formally withdrew from the case on Monday, December 1, after the defendant accrued more than $37,000 in unpaid legal fees. A public defender has now been appointed to take over the high-profile case.
