Idaho Falls Power crews are on the scene of a power outage affecting the downtown area, specifically near Capitol and A Street. The cause of the outage has not yet been released by the utility company.

A new traffic pattern on Anderson Street, featuring concrete barriers near the railroad crossing between North Boulevard and Holmes Avenue, has sparked concern among some local businesses. The barriers, which create dedicated left-turn lanes to Wadsworth Drive and prevent U-turns at the crossing, are a point of frustration for companies that rely on large truck access.

The City of Idaho Falls, in a joint project with the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) and Union Pacific Railroad, stated the changes are part of a safety improvement project. According to the city, the medians at the crossing are a standard safety measure required as part of the agreement between ITD and Union Pacific. Under the same agreement, Union Pacific is upgrading the crossing by installing automated gates. The medians are intended to prevent vehicles from bypassing the gates and to guide traffic safely.

Police are investigating a crash involving at least two cars at the intersection of 17th and Ashment on Tuesday afternoon.

Christopher Gress, a student in the Medical Assisting program at College of Eastern Idaho (CEI), has been named the sole national winner of the 2025 Student Essay Competition hosted by the American Association of Medical Assistants.

This September, the Museum of Idaho is bringing a touch of ancient Egypt to Idaho Falls. The museum, which is currently hosting the popular Mummies of the World exhibit, will welcome two world-renowned Egyptologists for a special weekend of events.
Dr. Bob Brier, a leading authority on mummies and ancient Egypt, will be joined by author and art historian Patricia Remler for a series of talks and Q&A sessions. Brier, often called “Mr. Mummy,” is famous for creating MUMAB, the first modern mummy made with ancient Egyptian techniques. Remler is the author of Egyptian Mythology A–Z and an expert in Egyptian art and culture.

The Bonneville County Board of Commissioners announced today that it will conclude its lease agreement with the Idaho Innovation Center, effective September 30, 2026.

The decision comes after years of evaluating the public benefits associated with the current lease, which originated July 27, 1988, and was most recently amended on October 25, 2022. County leadership determined that while the Idaho Innovation Center has provided valuable contributions to the community for many years, the County’s significant financial investment in the facility is no longer aligned with its economic development goals to unify and strengthen efforts across the broader community.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office is searching for 22-year-old Braxton Scott Larson, who escaped from a work detail crew this morning at approximately 9:30 a.m.

Larson is described as having brown hair, hazel eyes, and weighing between 120 and 130 lbs. Authorities are reportedly pursuing escape charges.

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has approved a rate increase for Falls Water, a move the company states is necessary to cover the increasing costs of operations and maintenance, system improvements, and replacing aging infrastructure.

Idaho Falls Police are on the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Pancheri Drive near Culver’s, which caused minor traffic disruptions.

The crash was reported around 3:14 p.m. Witness photos show one of the vehicles, a silver sedan, overturned. Despite witness concerns, Idaho Falls Police spokesperson Jessica Clements has confirmed that all individuals involved sustained “what appears to be minor injuries.”

A new set of lungs has given Audra Burgener a second chance at life. The 59-year-old Idaho Falls woman received a double lung transplant at the University of Utah Medical Center last Tuesday after her health was ravaged by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). For her and her partner, Chad Williams, who has been with her for 45 years, the journey from diagnosis to the operating table has been a grueling one, but a successful donor match earlier this year provided a ray of hope.

The Greater Idaho Falls Police Foundation is once again stepping up to support local law enforcement. Their latest contribution to the Idaho State Police (ISP) District 6 will allow troopers to receive specialized training at Soma Jiu-Jitsu in Idaho Falls, advancing officer safety, health, and wellness.
“Every day, troopers face unpredictable and sometimes dangerous encounters,” said ISP District 6 Captain Chris Weadick. “This training builds confidence and equips our troopers with proven techniques to safely resolve situations while protecting themselves and the communities they serve.
