The Madison County Meals on Wheels program is in urgent need of volunteer drivers to help serve 80 to 100 people a week. To meet this growing demand, the program needs at least 10 more volunteers to join its team of 20 dedicated drivers.

Two men are facing charges of aggravated battery and leaving the scene of an accident after a hit-and-run incident turned violent this past Saturday.

According to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 11 p.m. in a construction zone just south of St. Anthony. After a vehicle collision, the victims told deputies that two men, later identified as Randy A. Wheeler Jr., 37, and Tayson P. Thomas, 19, violently assaulted them.

Sheriff campers wrapped up their week with water safety training and a bit of summer fun at the Black Tail camp area.

“I really like it. I want to go into law enforcement, so this is just super fun to feel the vibe and be around all these awesome people,” said Porter Spencer, Junior, Madison High School.

Fremont County Search and Rescue (FCSAR) successfully pulled off a tricky high-line rope rescue this past Sunday, July 13, to extract an injured hiker out of a remote canyon east of Ashton.

Around 7:19 PM, rescue crews, along with folks from Fremont County EMS, Emergency Management, and an Air Idaho flight crew, were sent out to Robinson Creek Canyon. Reports came in about someone with a broken leg stuck deep in a remote part of the canyon, which made getting to them and getting them out incredibly difficult.

This Wednesday, July 16, Jefferson County Lake will be the site of a significant water rescue training exercise involving local first responders.

Getting a new building for the Rexburg Police Department is in the works, but it will need the community’s support.

A Madison County grand jury has indicted Ryler Jensen, 28, and Anthony Dean Wilson, 33, on charges connected to the brutal 2021 home invasion and shooting death of Ralph Brian. The indictments were handed down on Friday, marking “a step forward in a years-long investigation,” Sheriff Ron Ball told reporters on Wednesday.

Ralph and Karen Brian were attacked in their mobile home at 340 North 12th West, widely known as the Boathouse Trailer Court, near Rexburg on the morning of September 20, 2021. Ralph was shot in the head by an intruder and later died from his injuries in a local hospital. His wife, Karen, was stabbed multiple times but survived the ordeal.

Dozens joined the special needs lunch at Potter Park in Rexburg, hosted by the Rexburg Police Department. Those who came out got to eat hot dogs with cops, ride in golf carts, and a fan favorite was getting to drive a Segway.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Daytona “Tony” Travis, a person of interest in connection with a stabbing that occurred Sunday afternoon on West Highway 33.

Travis was last seen leaving the area in a white Ford F-150 pickup truck, traveling in an unknown direction. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Traffic leaving U.S. Highway 20 to access South Rigby will be detoured on Monday while the exit is closed for bridge repairs. The closure will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and last only the one day.

Travelers can take Exit 322 (North Rigby) or Exit 318 (County Line) as detours. Those leaving Rigby to get on to US-20 will still be able to use the southbound ramp at Exit 320 toward Idaho Falls as normal.

 A location for the new Rexburg Police Department has been decided on by the mayor and city council leaders.

A Madison County man is now in custody, facing charges of possessing and distributing child pornography. Rexburg Police Detectives arrested Jackson Johansson on Monday, following an investigation that began with a tip from the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

Rexburg Police and their SWAT team arrested a man who pointed a handgun at people Wednesday night.

The Fremont County Coroner’s Office has identified the international tourists killed in the Island Park fiery crash. Next of kin have been notified. 

The Idaho Transportation Department, in partnership with Union Pacific Railroad, will close highways near several railroad crossings in May.

State Highway 33 from Rexburg to Sage Junction will close Monday through part of Tuesday as needed (May 19-May 20) as Union Pacific Railroad replaces crossings along this route. Motorists can take State Highway 48 to Roberts and Interstate 15 to Sage Junction as an alternative.

First responders in Madison County are on the scene of a trailer fire in the Archer area, as of 10:10 AM Wednesday.

The area of 9000 South, between 400 West and 900 East, is currently closed, according to a post on the Madison County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page.

Idaho Fish and Game’s Warm Slough Access Site’s status has recently changed from a 10-day camping limit to day-use only from February 1st through September 30th. Warm Slough is located in Madison County, about 5 miles north of Highway 33 along the Henry’s Fork River. 

Tuesday morning, Adams Elementary School in Rexburg participated in an active school shooting drill.

This Full evacuation drill is meant to keep the students and staff as safe as possible.

Many law enforcement agencies travel out of state to order new cars, but the Madison County Sheriff’s Office is excited that its big expense went back into its community. All their new cars came from Taylor Chevrolet in Rexburg.

It’s official. BYU-Idaho is requiring an age cap for its approved student housing. Students 26 years and older are no longer eligible to live in student-approved housing complexes and will now be required to live in community housing.

Emergency responders are reporting damage to a “very large gas line” in the area of S 2nd E and the Crestview Subdivision in Rexburg.

“The immediate area at risk has been evacuated,” writes the Rexburg Police Department on its Facebook page. “We are asking residents within the subdivision to stay inside your (their) home.”

March 14-18 marks National Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week, and the Rexburg police department is honoring their Animal Control Officer.

Leaders at the Rexburg police department visited their officers at the shelter to deliver cookies and other sweets to express their appreciation for them.

The Rexburg Soup Kitchen has been open for just over three weeks, and organizers say it is already benefiting more people than expected.

The organization is serving 100 meals on average to people in need each week.
